"Diversityville’ is a fictional town that can be used to introduce elements of diversity, equality and inclusion across the primary and secondary phase. The families that move into the town have many similarities with us even though they may appear to be different to in lots of ways. This display can be introduced as a completed town or individually as the residents ‘move’ into Diversityville.
Each Diversityville story tells of a child who has moved to the town. Their story explains their background, how and why they arrived in Diversityville, highlighting differences and similarities that can be used as teaching and discussion points. Each story ends with a question to encourage children to think about how they are connected to the child in the story.
The resources include; 9 interesting individual stories inspired by real life situations (including refugees, immigration, adoption, disabled people, same-sex parent families, mental health, different families, and young carers) , a selection of homes for each child, a map pin style portrait of each child and a title and explanation for Diversityville.
All resources are pdf files and can printed at multiple scales.
